Flying Trapeeeeeze!

I bought my brother and I a beginner flying trapeze lesson over at Emerald City Trapeze.  It was so FUN!  I couldn't believe what they taught us on the first lesson!

Not too shabby, and it was a wonderful gift for Christmas.  My family had a great time too!

Color trends for Spring/Summer 2013

Here in Seattle, the dreariest month is Jan.  No more looking forward to Thanksgiving, and the red and green spectacle that occurs between then and Dec. 25th....nope.  January to Washingtonians means 6 more months of grey rainy blaahhhhhhh.

But....there is a light...THANK HEAVEN FOR THE INTERNET, where we can read about the trending bright colors for Spring and Summer.  Ahhhhh....I can feel the sun blinding me now.

I cannot wait to decorate my face with these colors, cuz you can bet I'm going to be bugging Dr. Jen's House of Beauty to make me all of these in eye shadows and lipsticks and glosses!

Check out what the infamous Finnish make-up artist Jangsara can do!  Get to adding to your color palette so you can achieve these looks!  (OMG, Alien?  Awesome!)

FINALLY! Drag Race Season 5...the cat is out of the bag!

My gal pal Jinkx Monsoon is on the upcoming Season of Ru Paul's Drag Race.

WEEEEEEHOOOOOOOO!

This is going to be a wild ride!  Not only have Jinkx and I worked on projects and shows together over the years, but we've become friends to boot!
(Freedom Fantasia 2012)

She's pure delight and I'm so thrilled that the world will get to witness her talent.

"Seattle's Premiere Narcoleptic Drag Queen"

Monday's Delightful Obsession

NYC's Daughters of Devotion.
Comprised of former Seattle natives; Kindra and Laura Devotion have taken NYC by storm...and I'm not even trying to make a Sandy pun.

Their original looks and outrageously decadent make-up have made them the favorites of the NYC scene.  They've been everywhere...Page 6 *tramping* alongside Carmen Elecktra, drinking champagne with Mike Ruiz, gallivanting with the Blonds.

If jealousy is a stinky perfume, then I reek!

This gal is so happy to see her friends doing so well in the Big Apple.  Take a big 'ol beautiful bite Ladies!

EXCITING NEWS!

Over the last few months fellow Seattle designer-to-the-Stars, Danial Webster, and I have been collaborating on our new design project.

This past year he and I have come together for quite a few projects.  One thing we noticed after having both worked in theater, commercial and film, is that there is a lack of higher end rentals available in the northwest.

Well not anymore!  We've slowing been building our stock of rentable items, and just time time for the Holidays!

A collaborative illustration from artist Kelly Brownlee (http://www.kellyportfolio.com/)

She brilliantly summed up all that is JVS, in one picture.

Don't miss her gallery show in the Musicquarium Dec 6th.  I certainly hav an outfit picked out already!

Oh Couture!

"You know, you look just like..."

Ever since I can remember, people have come up to me and said, "You know, you look just like _______."   This happens to everyone, but I feel like I may get these observations more than most.
Today alone 3 different people told me I look like ________.

I'm certainly not complaining, I find it amusing.  Fortunately all of the people I'm told I look like, are attractive (of the celebrities I can google anyway).
I also get a lot of:  "Look just like my cousin."  Or  "My best friend from High School."  And even on a few occasions  "My ex-girlfriend."  YIKES!
I always wondered where all these women I look like are? An island somewhere?
Ironically, a while back a gal contacted me introducing herself.  She had recently moved to the city, and had been wondering why people kept mistaking her for a girl named Jamie.  Haha, finally, I've met a doppelganger!

Just for fun, here's a list of celebs I've been told more than once, I resemble.  Make of it what you will:

Lady Miss Kier:

Ever since "Groove is in the heart" hit the charts.

Pink:

I've gotten this one off and on over the years.

Anna Friel:

Maybe more so when I had this hair.

Mary McCormick:

???

Bjork:

Yes Please!!!

Parker Posey:

This is a more recent one.

But out of all of these, there's only one I am proud to resemble most:

MOM:

Baby it's cold outside!

What happened to summer?!?!

If you live in the Northwest, then you know how our summers are:  As soon as they appear, they're over.  But it seems like winter decided to rush in with little warning.
Pull out those furs and heavy tights ladies, it's going to be like this till June!

Someone fill my closet with Ulyana Sergeenko Fall 2012 couture STAT!

The Cover of The Stranger

Bombshells founder and choreographer: Kitten La Rue, and choreographer and co-art director of DeLouRue: Lou Henry Hoover, are on the recent cover of The Stranger, Seattle's most popular news-magazine.
(Kitten wears a JVS wedding dress and fascinator.)

If you live in Washington State, then you're aware that our state is on the crux of history.  We are soon to *Hopefully* pass Ref 74, which will make us the first state to legalize same-sex marriage on the ballot.

Kitten and Lou are engaged in real life, and are a great example of a loving couple, working together, and nurturing healthy relationship and life-partnership.

AIRPOCALYPSE

When I first saw this act on America's Got Talent, I thought to myself, "Holy S--T!  That is HILARIOUS!"

I am THRILLED to announce they are going to be a part of the J. Von Stratton Fashion Presention on Oct. 11th.
They will be bringing their highly entertaining antics to the stage alongside my bevy of amazing talent (Dance Belt, Ben DeLaCreme, Tanya Brno, Quynbi, Elizabeth Ripley, Caela Bailey).
Where else but at my fashion event can you see a globally recognized Opera singer, and air-band, and a stoic rendition of Vogue.  Fashion is Marvelous, isn't it.

FOR THOSE OF YOU IN THE SEATTLE AREA,  New Day Northwest, on KING 5 television, has invited me to be on the show on Monday October 8th.  I will be having a little mini fashion show on the program, and have invited The Atomic Bombshells to model.  If you'd like to come, get free tickets by emailing here:  newdaytickets@king5.com
If you don't have your tickets to the main event yet, please visit this link to purchase:  http://tripledoor.com/Calendar/Events/October-2012/J--Von-Stratton-Designs-Fall-Fashion-Presentation.aspx

Soul Calibur

My friend and long-time client, Iva Handfull, has always been a performer with an aesthetic all her own.  She pairs high glamour with dark and edgy, better than anyone I know.  We first began collaborating 4 or 5 years ago.  She'll bring me inspiration pictures ranging from Grace Jones to an Alexander McQueen collection.

When she came to me requesting a costume for the JOYstick Burlesque show (all about video game characters), she brought me a picture of Ivy Valentine, from Soul Calibur.

I don't know a lick about modern video games, I grew up in the Mario Bros' and Duck Hunt times, but I took one look at Ivy Valentine and KNEW it was perfect for Iva.

This picture has received more Facebook shares and comments than anything I've ever been associated with.  It is pretty damn fierce!

*For all you die hard cos-play folks out there.  Iva DOES have the armour.  Because this was a dance piece, she chose not to wear it, so it wouldn't get ruined. Calm Down now.
